Super Tuesday Inspiration
You should watch this.
There’s no agenda and I’m not telling you who to vote for.
I just wanted to pass along something that I was inspired by.
I hope you enjoy it.

Update: Russ posted a great entry and link to the original NH speech that this video was created from. Watch it. Here.
Also, here’s a transcript of the words/lyrics from the video embedded above.
It was a creed written into the founding documents that declared the destiny of a nation.
Yes we can.
It was whispered by slaves and abolitionists as they blazed a trail toward freedom.
Yes we can.
It was sung by immigrants as they struck out from distant shores and pioneers who pushed westward against an unforgiving wilderness.
Yes we can.
It was the call of workers who organized; women who reached for the ballots; a President who chose the moon as our new frontier; and a King who took us to the mountaintop and pointed the way to the Promised Land.
Yes we can to justice and equality.
Yes we can to opportunity and prosperity.
Yes we can heal this nation.
Yes we can repair this world.
Yes we can.
We know the battle ahead will be long, but always remember that no matter what obstacles stand in our way, nothing can stand in the way of the power of millions of voices calling for change.
We have been told we cannot do this by a chorus of cynics…they will only grow louder and more dissonant ……….. We’ve been asked to pause for a reality check. We’ve been warned against offering the people of this nation false hope.
But in the unlikely story that is America, there has never been anything false about hope.
Now the hopes of the little girl who goes to a crumbling school in Dillon are the same as the dreams of the boy who learns on the streets of LA; we will remember that there is something happening in America; that we are not as divided as our politics suggests; that we are one people; we are one nation; and together, we will begin the next great chapter in the American story with three words that will ring from coast to coast; from sea to shining sea –
Yes. We. Can.

Wow. That is a really cool video. Regardless of your politics, it’s nice to see something that aims to inspire like this.

Mark,
thanks for dropping by. I completely agree. I think it speaks to a sense of unity and common purpose that most of us are desperate for. The line that still gets me every time is
“We are not as divided as our politics suggest.”
I believe that. I truly do. Especially as a Christian… I don’t see how I can’t believe that and have any impact in this world.

Came over from Goodword. I just wanted to say I found your comment about you and your father very touching.

L.L.,
Thank you for stopping by and for your sentiment. I appreciate both very much! What I noted at Goodword has been a tangible result of my first novel. I truly hope it ends up expressing what I have come to understand as a son and eventual father.

I find Obama and his message so inspiring. I downloaded a copy of this as MP3 and have been listening to it today. Powerful stuff. Almost spiritual.
It’s nice to be inspired by politics instead of being so very angry about it for a change. Though I do fear that Obama won’t win the nomination, or that he will turn out to be just another politician who happens to be able to give a good speech. But that is the cynic in me speaking.

Gavin,
I was just looking for that MP3 yesterday. Where did you find it?
I agree with your assessment as to the almost spiritual nature of the song. The message of hope and inspiration certainly hits me there.
And I’ll admit that I share your fear as well, but I try not to, even though recent history has pounded that expectation into me.
