Words of Redemption Podcast Episode 1 - Until Durango
For a while now, I’ve been contemplating starting a podcast where I can share stories, poems and excerpts from my novel. I’ve thought about sharing these things in printed form, but posting a story on one’s blog counts as “published” in many circles, so I’m taking a “better safe than sorry” approach and will likely continue to avoid sharing, in print, anything that I am submitting around for publication.
But what I can do1, is share these things with you via an irregular2 podcast.
So I give you the Words of Redemption Podcast.
{Insert Fanfare}
You can either listen to the first episode via the embedded player below, check out the PodOMatic page for this podcast, or subscribe to the podcast in iTunes. That’s right, take me on the road…
Thanks to Dan Ducat for the idea and the inspiration to do this. I hope it’s all you hoped it would be, Dan.
In the first episode of the Words of Redemption podcast, I have recorded the first half of “Until Durango,” a crime/mobster story I wrote earlier this year. This is actually the rejected story I am referring to in my post, Rejection, both real and imagined.
Since the rejection, I’ve reworked the story and gotten some additional feedback and advice on it. I’m still working on the latter half of the story, which I’ll probably blog about later, and hope to submit it to a couple of crime-specific publications in June and July.
In the meantime, enjoy.
Be warned though, there is a lot of swearing in this podcast…
Just kidding, that comes later.
And the “Whoop” in the intro was my lovely wife expressing her excitement. I think she expected me to re-record the intro, but it was too good not to leave in.
Let me know what you think after you give a listen.
Oh, and tell your friends. I’m needy.

Look at you, all high-tech.
So, where’s the acting? I want to see some Kung Fu, man!

I’m glad you left in my whoop of excitment.
Although I haven’t actually listened to it yet, so I might change my mind on that…
Looking forward to my lunch break though, which is when I’ll have a chance to experience your new medium. Very cool idea and great use of your techie skills.

The whoop is perfect! Enjoyed the story, had to wonder about the picture of the diner for a bit…Looking forward to the next bit. Boo Yankees!!!

Nice sound quality! The guitar going back and forth in my speakers if fun too. I subscribed in my itunes and I’ll catch it on my lunch commute… walking across the street for a church lunch meeting on stewardship.
Sarah’s whoop is fun. Keep that if you can.
The diner picture. Reminds me of Coach’s Midnight Diner. Did you have that in mind?

You’re a cold, cold man, leaving us at the cliff! But I’m intrigued…I wanna know more. Which is the point, yes?
Well done, Slick…I’ll know where to come for advice when I host Mic Night at Pensieve.
BIG just kidding there…ENORMOUS ;).

Hey Brandon,
how about a MP3 feed in addition to the MP4 feed? I went to throw this on my old nano (non video), and could not.
I put it on it’s big brother iPod, and am really looking forward to listening to it on the way to work this morning!

Heather, the Kung Fu is coming. I am still in negotiations with the fight choreographer from the Matrix Trilogy and some guys from the Wire Work Engineers Union. Keep your fingers crossed!
Sarah, thanks for letting me leave in the whoop!
And thanks for the encouragement. As always, I appreciate it.
Jim, thanks. Do you mean that the diner picture was confusing until the story started, or that it never really made sense?
Mark, I hope you had a chance to give it a listen over lunch. Let me know what you thought. As for the diner image, I was actually inspired to write this story based on the Coach’s Midnight Diner prompt and this was one of two stories I was considering for submission this year. I picked the other story, which had more of a twilight-zone feel, but I really liked this one as well and wanted to keep it alive.
Robin, exactly.
and I’d be happy to host the Pensieve open mic night and clam bake anytime.
Mom, thanks! Probably next week…
Dan, Good idea. I exported the first episode from GB as an Enhanced podcast thinking that it would be more useful in some way. Not really so, so I’ll go back to normal with the next episode. Let me know what you think after you give it a listen!

Well done, Brandon. the only problem was that it was only 11 minutes long. Always leave ‘em wanting more. By the end of the 11 minutes, I was hooked.
We want more!

Yeah, a little shorter than I had expected… but at least I got you hooked!
Let’s hope the end of the story lives up to the hook… :O

The diner picture made sense after the story started! We want part 2…we want part 2!!!
