YEAH! That's my mom, writing some fiction! I really enjoyed this, mom! I loved the message in what wasn't said, and the information withheld in the story left me wanting more. Excellent contribution!

Yvette stepped out of the cab, paid the driver in large bills giving him a healthy tip and stood at the end of the driveway. The checkered cab spun it's tires and kicked up gravel as it sped down the street. She stood for the longest time staring at the expansive house that she called home for 18 years. She used to be able to see it more clearly back then. Of course back then the shrubs were only waist high. Back then was 25 years ago.

She’d wanted to come back long before this but she kept putting it off never certain if the time was right or if she would be welcomed. Where had the time gone? 25 years.

When she received the call the news knocked her to her knees and sucked the air out of her lungs. “He only has a few more days.” That was a few days ago. The time was now, welcome or not.

Hoisting the brown leather bag over her left shoulder she made her way down the long, narrow driveway. As she walked Yvette wondered which one of them would greet her at the door. Greet…that’s a word that conjures up a warm welcome with hugs and pats on the back. She was certain no hugs would be forthcoming. 25 years of not knowing. 25 years of not undertanding. 25 years of not communicating.
