“Castaway” to Appear in Boston Literary Magazine

Monday, April 13th, 2009

On Thursday, I got word that my story, “Castaway,” will be published in the Summer issue of the Boston Literary Magazine.
The story is a recent creation, and a “literary” one at that, meaning that it doesn’t feature werewolves, vampires, private eyes, mobsters, purveyors of “the worlds most dangerous game”, hobbits, or quantum [...]

Niteblade Magazine – March 2009

Monday, March 2nd, 2009

The March issue of Niteblade magazine is out and my story “Guzman’s Labyrinth” is contained within. If you haven’t checked out Niteblade before, I’d highly recommend it. Great fiction, reviews and poetry in the horror and fantasy vein.
There is a free version of the issue up on the site, and an add-free PDF available for [...]

NaNoWriMo 2008 – Mid-month Update and Novel Excerpt

Saturday, November 15th, 2008

At one time or another, I had intended to post a daily update of my progress with NaNoWriMo this year.
HA!
Intentions are great, no?
Lesson #1 on the Words of Redemption blog: Don’t listen to what Brandon says he plans to do until he actually does it.
In any case, NaNoWriMo itself is going swimmingly. I hit 34,224 [...]

Five Things I Learned From NaNoWriMo 2007

Friday, October 31st, 2008

NaNoWriMo is tomorrow. So, if you’re considering diving in, or already have, here are a few tips that helped me last year:
1) Meaningless dialogue that would NEVER EVER EVER make it into a published novel can do wonders for your word count.
“What did you have for dinner?”
“For dinner?I had the Chicken Stew that [...]

Nevermind the Election, It’s NaNoWriMo 2008!

Friday, October 31st, 2008

NaNoWriMo 2008 is just around the corner. As in tomorrow.
I gotta admit, I’m equal parts excited, scared and wondering what the heck I’m thinking.
Most of you will likely recall that this crazy experiment of me pretending to be a writer started with NaNoWriMo 2007 and has continued on over the last year with [...]

Guzman’s Labyrinth to appear in Niteblade Magazine

Late last week, I got word that Niteblade Magazine wants to publish Guzman’s Labyrinth in the March 2009 issue.
Being that this blog is primarily about my wandering journey into writing, I thought it was worth mentioning.
I’m certainly pretty excited…
You might remember Guzman’s Labyrinth from a Write What You See [...]

NaNoWriMo Approaches

Monday, September 29th, 2008

I’m writing this post from my iPhone.1 I’m on the phone because I’m mostly avoiding the computer during my morning writing sessions these days, which ought to explain the drop in post and tweet frequency.
And while I miss being in the mix each morning, there is a good cause: NaNoWriMo is coming post haste and [...]

What’s New?

Wednesday, September 10th, 2008

You’ve likely noticed that posting frequency here at Words of Redemption has dipped a bit. Thankfully, that’s by design. However, other than to say that things are quite busy, I won’t enumerate the reasons why until I post my entry for LL Barkat’s 5 Ways Blogging Changed My Life meme. Expect that this weekend.
In the [...]

Sending it Out

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

I finished The Silent Funeral today.
For better or worse, it’s done.
After another read through and another round of minor, but important changes, it’s time for me to move on.
It’s time for me to release it into the wild and hope that the world is accepting of it.
Is this what the first day of school feels [...]

Stained, In Flux, Discerning the Next

Sunday, August 10th, 2008

Last week, I spent two days attending the Willow Creek Leadership Summit.
Since Thursday morning, I’ve been unsettled, uncomfortable and uncertain.
In the grand scheme, these are good, no great, things.
Wonderful and majestic things.
Eternal things.
But in the meantime, I have been shaken.
And it’s time for me to discern a call.
And my response.
I think it looks something like [...]
